GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Chelsea 2nd at Hudson Invite

The Chelsea girls’ cross country team placed second at the Hudson Invitational on Saturday despite the wet and soggy conditions.

The Bulldogs finished with 82 points, finishing behind only Wauseon (Ohio) with 32 points. Parma Western was a distant third (104) with Tecumseh fourth (107) in the 11-team tournament.

“We ran well,” said Chelsea coach Pat Clarke. “The course was very soggy, humid and ran slow. We were focused as a team and performed well.”

Junior Maegen Hopkins led the way for the Bulldogs placing third with a strong race and time of 20 minutes, 21 seconds.

Jessi Jacobusse was fifth (20:31) and Karanna Wickens was seventh (20:34) as the Bulldogs placed three in the top 10.

Lauren O’Toole was 33rd (22:53), Sandra Gofton 34th (22:55), Rachel Hastings 40th (23:26) and Maggie Tarasow was 41st (23:27).

“We must continue to improve which is our goal for each meet,” Clarke said. “I just hope that we can continue on this course of improvement throughout the rest of the season.”
