BOYS SWIMMING: Saline dominates field at SEC Red meet

Saline is still the class of the SEC Red.

The Hornets put on a clinic in their home pool on Saturday, as the three-time defending state champions scored a 591 -- over 100 points more than second place Pioneer -- to claim the top spot in the conference.

The host school won nine events in its own pool and showed its still the top team in the Red -- a division that has boasted five straight champions and six of the last seven.

Pioneer took second with a score of 482. Huron (402), Skyline (362), Monroe (177) and Bedford rounded out the field.

In the 200-yard medley, David Boland, Josh Ehrman, Geoffrey Doung and Austin Deal claimed the first SEC Championship with a time of 1:35.30.

The 200-yard freestyle was claimed by Salineís Adam Whitener, who won in 1:43.30 in the final event. Teammate Jacob Ehrman was second with a time of 1:45.52.

Boland also took the top spot in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 1:51.73. That was nearly two seconds better than runner-up Chris Klein of Pioneer.

The fourth event, the 50 free, was claimed by Salineís Michael Bundas (22 seconds even).

Saline, Pioneer and Huron took a 1-2-3 out of the diving event. Sam Blair (446) was first, followed by Tyler Leach (427.20) and Will Brenner (386.70).

Whitener and Bundas were 1-2 in the 100 free, with Whitener finishing the final event in 46.49 and Bundas taking 48.26.

In the 500 free, Josh Ehrman had perhaps the most impressive race of the event. His time of 4:38.49 was almost a full lap ahead of Skylineís Matt Orringer, who took second in 4:51.24.

In the 200 free relay, it was once again the Hornets in front. Bundas, Allen, Klemptner and Whitener finished in 1:28.15. Pionnerís Finn Magoon, Thad Stalmack, Daniel Wu and Davis Argersinger were second in 1:29.01.

The 100 backstroke was claimed by Hornet David Boland, who won his race in 51.32.

Josh Ehrman was a winner in the 100 breaststroke, as he finished in 57.10.

Saline rounded out its impressive day with a win in the 400 free relay. Whitener, Bundas, Boland and Josh Ehrman combined for a time of 3:07.67.
