Almont takes two from Algonac in BWAC showdown

Algonac dropped both ends of a BWAC doubleheader to Almont Tuesday, falling 7-1 in the early game at 11-2 in the nightcap.

Steven Rose had the Muskratsí lone hit in Game 1, a one-out double in the top of the second. Rose would go onto score on a wild pitch later in the inning, accounting for Algonacís only run.

Almontís Nick Pica earned the win, yielding one earned run over five innings of work. He tallied 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Jagger Geck suffered the loss for Algonac, allowing seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings. He walked five and fanned four.

Daniel Deblauwe did the heavy lifting for the Almont offense, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Chase Kapron went 1 for 3 and had three RBIs in the win.

Algonac built a 2-0 lead in Game 2, plating both its runs in the first inning. Almont answered with three runs in both the second and third innings and put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth inning.

Pica (2 for 4) and Deblauwe (1 for 4, three RBIs and a run scored) again played a major role in the Raider attack at the plate.

Grant Stephensonís two-run home run with one out in the first served as the Muskratsí lone source of offense in the late game.

Zach Fillinger earned the win for Almont, surrendering the two runs on six hits over seven innings. He recorded four strikeouts and had a gave up a walk.

Anthony Lupo was saddled with the loss, allowing six earned runs on high eights over 2 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one.
