Two seasons ago, Cabrini earned a trip to the Catholic League C-D championship game and made an appearance in the state playoffs.

Unfortunately for the Monarchs, they were unable to follow up that success in 2013 and finished with an overall record of 3-5.

Led by Coach Mark Shea, along 13 seniors on the roster this year, the Monarchs will look to get back to those winning ways.

Senior Eddie O’Neil (5-foot-6, 150 pounds) will start at quarterback for the blue and gold, stepping in for 2014 graduate Nick Shirey.

Running the ball for Cabrini will be senior fullback Brandon MacGregor (5-9, 210), senior halfback John Cyster (5-9, 175) and junior wingback Billy Oeftering (5-9, 170). The squad is replacing a pair of strong senior backs from last year in News-Herald Dream Team selection Pat Sekerak and All-News-Herald pick Nick Lazorka.

On the offensive line, the Monarchs will have standout senior Max Fister (6-2, 275) at guard, with senior Nathan Upton (5-7, 215) at the other guard. Seniors John Carl Aloisi (6-3, 300) and Steve Branum (6-3, 280) will be at the tackle spots and junior Andy Orr (6-0, 191) is set to play center.

At tight end will be senior Mike Buzanowski (6-1, 210), while at split end will be junior Steve Sowa (6-0, 175) and also in the mix for receiver spots will be senior Tyler Syer (6-2, 160) and sophomore Kyle Kessler (5-6, 127).

On the other side of the ball, Orr and senior Thomas Cahill (5-8, 230) will play as defensive ends, while Aloisi and Fister will come over to the other side of the ball as defensive linemen. Senior lineman Anthony Cragnale (5-5, 240) is also competing for a spot on both defense and offense.

Four seniors are scheduled to start at linebacker, with Cyster and Brandon Chidester (5-8, 160) on the inside and MacGregor and senior Joe Files (6-0, 240) on the outside.

In addition to playing offense and defense, MacGregor will also handle the kicking and punting duties.

Playing in the secondary for the Monarchs will be Oeftering and Kessler at the cornerback spots and Sowa at safety.

Cabrini will kick off the 2014 campaign with a game at Clarkston Everest Collegiate on Aug. 28.
