It may be just two days into the official start of the MHSAA football season, but the Marauders are more than ready to go.

Despite some nasty weather on Monday evening, Coach Kent Sikora and his squad have gotten two practices under their belts and are eager to get the season underway.

Two weeks ago, the team also went up to Saginaw University for a training camp.

“This group has got a little hunger to them,” Sikora said. “(Saginaw) was a pretty good bonding experience and our kids talked about and set some goals.

“They’ve come out these first two nights and have been excited about what they want. Goals for us are just to get better every day; every game is important.”

Sikora has about 40 guys on his squad this season; 26 of whom are retuning letterman.

“It’s a good number for us and most of those kids have played significant football,” he said. “We got bit by the injury bug pretty hard last year, so that forced some guys into different roles and I think that’s gonna help us this year.”

A big focus for the Marauders, will be a post season appearance for the first time in a few seasons.

“Playoffs is a definite goal,” Sikora said. “It’s the goal every year, and we’ve had a rough couple of years in that aspect, but this group’s hungry to put their name back in the book and get into the playoffs.”

As the opening kickoff draws closer, Sikora and his Marauders will continue to focus on improvement each day with their long list of veteran players.

“We’re focusing on getting better every day,” he said. “For us, everything that we’re pointing to right now it Taylor Kennedy.”

Carlson opens its season August 28 against the Eagles.
