Trenton opens district play with mercy of River Rouge PHOTO GALLERY

Trenton kicked off the Division 2, District 57 playoffs with a bang on Friday afternoon at Grosse Ile.

In what was the first semifinal of the day, the Trojans crushed River Rouge 18-1 in a three-inning mercy.

For the game, Cody Montroy was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Grant Dukus was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Brett Murray was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and Quinn Preston finished 2-for-2 at the dish.

One hit each came from Solomon Markus, Jerry Labell, Brett Murray, Drew Johnson and Jake Nabozny.

Montroy, Dukus and Murray scored three times each, while Labell, Johnson and Brady Tanguay scored twice and Preston, Markus and Nabozny scored once. The squad also stole five bases, as Preston, Johnson, Tanguay, Nabozny and Montroy all swiped one.

The Panthers’ run came in the first inning after Julius Laidler singled to knock in Ralph McAfee, who had reached with a single of his own. Also with hits for River Rouge on Friday were Marquis Robinson and Randy Harrison.
