After falling behind by a run against Truman, Roosevelt came back for a 4-3 victory in a Division 1, District 14 pre-district battle at Woodhaven and advanced to Saturday’s semifinal.

The Bears will take on Carlson at noon on Saturday, back at Woodhaven, and the winner will face either Anderson or the host Warriors for the district crown later that afternoon.

Truman got on the board first on Tuesday with a solo home run by Mariah Hopkins off of starting pitcher Miranda Macko in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second, Roosevelt answered with two runs, as Sydni Pauley and Tierney Runions both reached base and both scored and Maya Ross doubled.

The Cougars came right back in the top of the third and scored a pair of their own, as a double from Hannah Hall plated Hopkins, who had walked, and a single by Aubrey Devoy scored Hall.

To lead off the bottom of the fourth, Runions stepped to the plate and drilled a ball over the fence for a home run, putting her squad back on top by a score of 4-3.

While Truman managed to get runners on base in two of the next three innings, strong pitching from Macko and a few big plays in the field helped the Bears hang on for the one-run win.

For the day, three players from Roosevelt finished with two hits, as Runions singled and homered, while Ross and Katie Guckian both singled and doubled. In the circle, Macko finished with eight strikeouts.

Truman got a two-hit day from both Hopkins and Monique Shepherd, as Hopkins singled and homered and Shepherd finished with a pair of singles.
