It was total domination tonight as the Riverview Pirates swept the Taylor Kennedy Eagles 8-0 in the first round of district playoffs. Riverview attacked early and often, making the Eagles’ defense work, and silencing their offense, keeping the ball in Kennedy territory for most of the game. The scoring started with Junior Sabrina Bronni making a shot at the nine minute mark. Two, minutes later, Senior Kirsten Chambers added to the score. The Pirates were able to score all eight points in the first 40 minutes of play. “We knew it was going to be a tough game to come into today,” Eagles Coach Jordan Kilduff said. “This year is a building year for us, I had a lot of new, young players. Next year, these girls will have some experience to bring to the team, which will hopefully translate to a better record.” Riverview Coach Pete Kano was very pleased with his teams intensity during the game. “The kids played well tonight. It’s great that I was able to play everyone, especially in districts. Now we just need to keep this momentum going through the week.” For Kirsten Chambers, entering her final days in a Pirates jersey, these games have an added meaning. “I just want to win districts, and to play well. I’m so proud of how far my team has made it already this season, I want everyone to play their hearts out these final games.” Chambers had two goals on the night and an assist from a corner kick. Kirsten is one of two Seniors on Riverview’s roster along with Alexandria Shook. “I couldn’t say enough about Kirsten and Allie,” said Coach Kano. “They are two of the best, hardworking players this team has seen. The Pirates had almost back to back goals in the 16th minute mark from Chambers and Alexis Slayton. Also adding to the win were goals from Haley Pernicano, Emma Lilje, and Amber Potter. Bronni made the final shot for Riverview securing the mercy for the team. The Pirates will continue their journey through districts Thursday against the Carlson Marauders at Trenton at 5 pm.
