The Grosse Ile soccer team defeated Monroe SMCC 4-1 on Tuesday in a first-round district game to advance to Wednesday's championship game against Flat Rock. In the first half, the Red Devils maintained most of the possession, but could not convert on the chances until Abby King sent a long hard shot from a pass by Aubrey Fleming to make it 1-0. The Devils continued to deny SMCC any good opportunities, but once again could not convert on their chances until Aubrey Fleming sent in the second goal from a King assist. In the second half, Grosse Ile continued to maintain the majority of the possession-controlling in the midfield. Alyson Lemerand found her first goal of the season when she scored off a King assist. However, after a defensive let down, SMCC found the back of the Grosse Ile net when a midfielder was open and sent a long hard ball over the head of GI's keeper, putting the score at 3-1. SMCC and Grosse Ile continued to press. Kelsey Krauss converted a pass from Aubrey Fleming to finish the game at 4-1. The Devils improved to 18-0-2 on the season.
