Lincoln Park tops local boys' field at MITCA PHOTO GALLERY

Roosevelt High School was packed with top-tier Division 1 track and field squads from around the state on Saturday afternoon as the school hosted the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Team State Championships for the second consecutive year.

Among the elite athletes on the boys’ side was Lincoln Park’s Robert Atwater, who took first in the high jump with a distance 7-0 and also was second in the long jump (21-02.00) and third in the pole vault (13-06.00), while teammate Joe Decoster was second in the high jump (6-06.00).

In a field of 15 boys’ teams, The Railsplitters finished in 10th place with 855 points and were joined from the area by host Roosevelt (854.5), which took 11th, and 12-place Carlson (841.5). East Kentwood (1783.5) was first for the day, ahead of second-place Traverse City Central (1689.5) and third-place Saline (1534.5).

Highlights of the day for Roosevelt included Dominic Davis in seventh place in both the 1,600m (4:29.51) and the 3,200m (10:14.06) and Davis teaming with Cameron Herron, Danny May and Isadore Harris for third place in the 4x800 relay (8:09.63). The Bears also had Matthew Dube in fifth in the pole vault (12-06.00) and teammate Andrew Harrison (11-09.00) in eighth, while Justin Garbin earned ninth in the 110m hurdles (16.08).

For Carlson, Nate Holmgren finished sixth in the 400m (52.12) and teammate Marvin Franklin (52.45) was ninth in the same event, while Zachary Moore was seventh in the shot put (47-01.50) and the 4x400 relay (3:33.35) took fifth with the team Holmgren, Franklin, AJ Gary and Joseph Enwerejobi.
