If the Pirates ever doubt how good they can play, all coach Pete Cano has to do is open up the I-Pad and click play on the Flat Rock game from Friday afternoon.

The Pirates scored an impressive 6-0 win over a Flat Rock team that played well at times and showed flashes of improvement throughout the game. The Rams created plenty of scoring chances throughout the game but couldn’t get anything past Riverview’s standout keeper Miranda Cobbs, who recorded her second straight shutout.

“We probably played the best game we played all year,” said Riverview coach Pete Cano. “It was a total team effort. Hopefully we can continue the momentum.”

Riverview improves to 3-1-1 in Huron League with the win.

On a day when Pirate senior Kirsten Chambers officially committed to play college soccer at Adrian College in the fall, her teammates came up big in dominating the Rams from start to finish. For the second straight game, Riverview was able to get dozens of shots on net, but once again, they had some trouble finding that finishing touch.

Chambers got the scoring started for the Pirates at the 6:11 mark, as her shot somehow snuck under the hands of the Flat Rock keeper. Sabrina Bronni was credited with the assist.

Riverview led 2-0 at 15:01 of the first half as Alexis Slayton scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Kaeley Coleman.

The Pirates took command of the game with two goals less than 2 minutes apart. At 25:11, it was Bronni scoring her first of the year on a beautiful shot from the right side that was rifled by the Ram's keeper.

Then, Amber Potter scored to make it 4-0. Chambers assisted on both goals.

Cano turned to his bench in the second half.

The Pirates scored two more goals in the first 14 minutes of the half. Coleman scored at 48:43 to make it 5-0. The goal was unassisted as she stole a Ram pass and streaked in on their keeper and slipped a shot into the lower left corner.

Haley Pernicano made it 6-0 at 53:26 off a nice pass from Chambers.

Chelsey Warlick and Hannah Dahl played solid on defense for the Pirates. Monica Justice and Ali Shook also played well in the back and Emma Lilje played strong in the middle. Ashley Coleman and subs Jenna Winchel and Kristina Nunez also played well for the Pirates.

Riverview hosts New Boston Huron on Tuesday, travel to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on Wednesday, and play at Milan on Friday.
