Grosse Ile dominates 2014 News-Herald "A" Tournament PHOTO GALLERY/TOUT VIDEO

After a rainout in 2013, the News-Herald “A” Girls’ Tennis Invitational was back on for this year.

Grosse Ile, which is ranked No. 1 in the state in Division 4, flexed its muscles Saturday afternoon and came away as champs with a gold medal in all eight flights at the event, which was hosted by Trenton, with matches also held at Riverview and Woodhaven.

The Red Devils finished the day with 32 points, ahead of second-place Trenton (18), as well as Riverview (16), Roosevelt (15), Richard (9), Cabrini (8), Anderson (7) and Woodhaven (6).

At No. 1 singles, Grosse Ile’s Brianna Riley topped Roosevelt’s Robyn Loselle for the championship and Riverview’s Ami Shukla took third.

The Red Devils’ Julia Formentin beat Richard’s Ava Daly for the No. 2 singles title and in third was Riverview’s Jamie Kollias.

No. 3 singles belonged to Ola Latala, while Riverview’s Erica Magnuson was runner up and Trenton’s Elle Kersten took third.

To complete the singles sweep, Grosse Ile’s Kennedy Quinn beat Roosevelt’s Lizz Gage for the title and Riverview’s Eugersa Agolli was third.

In doubles action, the Red Devil’s Anna Kaiser and Missy Coolsaet took the No. 1 flight championship against Riverview’s Amanda Klavon and Kayla Ketterer and in third was the Roosevelt duo of Jessica Mantel and Lindsay Cowell.

At No. 2 doubles, Grosse Ile’s Karolina Kvashnikova and Elli Formentin were champs, Trenton’s Evelyn Metric and Hannah Towe finished runner up and Richard’s Kaitlyn McGrath and Alicia Sims took the bronze.

The No. 3 doubles title went to the Red Devils’ team of Katherine Kuzmiak and Luna Terauchi, while Cabrini’s Carolyn Ferraiuolo and Lauren Griefenberg took second and Allyson Flannery and Madison Wilson of Anderson finished third.

At No. 4 doubles, Grosse Ile’s Rose Tucker and Casey Guthrie beat Trenton’s Cassie Vandenberg and Makayla Jorgensen and in third was the Roosevelt duo of Rylee Trombley and Hannah Lavis.
