Friday’s Prep Roundup: New Boston earns closely contested doubleheader sweep of Belleville in softball
NEW BOSTON — In softball action, Alexia White, Erika Yancey and Taylor Hughey help fuel the offense with home runs in the late innings as New Boston secures a 7-6 and a 8-7 doubleheader sweep over Belleville in softball action on Friday evening. In the first nine inning game, Courtney Vanripper pitched all nine innings striking out 11 batters. Two of the three home runs took place in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings before New Boston finally secured the victory in game one. Savannah Leiniger went 3-for-5 for New Boston. In the second game, Julie Littler went 2-for-2 with a double and pitched four innings to get the win. Alexia White and Erika Yancey each had three hits in the second game of the doubleheader for New Boston (3-0).
— Woodhaven 8, Taylor Truman 3 — At Taylor, Leah Pletcher went 2-for-3 and Hannah Fisher was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI for Woodhaven (3-3). Tiara Henderson was 2-for-4 and the pitcher of record for Taylor Truman.
— Allen Park 4, Southgate Anderson 3 — At Southgate, Miranda Hebert was the winning pitcher for Allen Park. Hailey Genaw weent 2-for-4 with an RBI and Hailey Bartholomew went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and secured a save for Allen Park.
— Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 3-1, Allen Park Cabrini 2-5 — At Pontiac, In the first game, Hannah Bullard scored the game-winner for Prep on a sacrifice fly. Victoria Bayliss gave up just two unearned runs, three hits and struck out ten batters on the night. Madison Fox and Bullard each had two hits for Prep. In the second game, Cabrini had five runs on 11 hits as every player in the lineup recorded a hit. Hanna Bullard and Madison Fox went 2-for-4 for Prep (5-3, 3-3 CHSL AA). Channing Brzys scattered eight hits giving up just one run and striking out four batters for Cabrini.
Boys Track and Field
— The Romulus Summit Academy boys track team took second place at the Erie-Mason Meet. Jesse Brown took first place in the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of (11.60, 23.93) respectively for Summit Academy. Garrett Novak took first in the 1600 and 3200 meter run (5:04, 11:02). Mackenzie Carson placed second in the 300 hurdles for Summit Academy (51.58).
Girls Track and Field
— The Romulus Summit Academy girls track team took third place at the Erie-Mason Meet. Alexxis Hernandez came in first place with a discus throw of 70 feet. Tega Orhorhoro also placed second in the discus with a throw of (67.4) and finished second in the high jump. The 800 meter relay team of Brooke Lenart, Dishante Butler, Kerstyn Kortier and Sahdia Washington took first place with a time of 2:10.14 for Summit Academy.
— Allen Park 102, Taylor Kennedy 23 (From Thursday) — Kaley Kauff earned victories in the 800 and 3200 meter runs for Allen Park. Abby Dawson was the winner of the shot put and the discus.
— Northville 2, Livonia Stevenson 0 — At Livonia, Jenna Baughman and Gabby Mencotti scored a goal. Megan Buckingham and Alana Dorfstatter recorded assists for Northville (5-0-0). Stevenson (4-2-2).
— Northville 1, Plymouth 0 (From Thursday) — Jamie Cheslik scored the lone goal and Megan Buckingham recorded an assist for Northville. Emily Maresh made 10 saves for her third shutout of the season (4-0-0). Plymouth (1-3-0).
