Behind two complete-game efforts from pitcher Channing Brzys, the Monarchs (5-1) took down the visitors 7-1 in the opener and hung on for a 3-0 victory in the nightcap. Brzys struck out 13 batters in the first game and allowed only two hits, two walks and one run, while in the second contest she fanned seven hitters and allowed only four hits and one walk. The Ventures scored the first run of the afternoon after Veronica Day reached base with a first-inning walk and later scored on a groundout by Mariah Fielder. In the bottom of the third, Cabrini grabbed the lead and went up 2-1 after Lily Ranspach and Angela Nappo both walked and later scored. The pair of free passes was two of the 11 issued by Foley pitching in the first game. An inning later, Lindsey Bzura walked, advanced on singles by Ranspach and Montana Spears and then scored courtesy of an error on a ball hit by Nappo. For the game, Spears finished 2-for-3 while Ranspach was 1-for-3 and both Ranspach and Nappo walked three times A four-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth put the game away for the Monarchs as Ranspach, Spears, Maddy Schultz and Nappo all got on base and all crossed the plate. To kick off the nightcap, leadoff hitter Peyton Lankford walked, advanced on a bunt and a single and then took advantage of a wild pitch to put her team up 1-0. One inning later, Nappo singled and after advancing was able to score courtesy of a passed ball. To cap off the scoring, Brzys was walked to start the fifth inning and later came across the plate with day’s final run. Foley did threaten during the contest, as Kathryn Sheehan and Juliana Auito both got on base in the fourth and sixth innings. However, in the fourth Brzys picked off a two-out liner back at the mound and in the sixth Bzura snagged a hard-hit ball hit by Fielder that was headed for right field. Next up for Cabrini is a nonleague game Wednesday at home against Cass Tech, while the Ventures are scheduled to host Cranbrook on Thursday.
