It didn’t take long for the Titans to get into their midseason form. Just 28 seconds into the Downriver League opener for both Anderson and Melvindale, Titans senior Jen Ibarra found the back of the net. It would be her first of two goals on the night.

Melvindale keeper, junior Stephanie Madrigal kept her team in the game and made some spectacular saves throughout the game, but could only do so much.

She ended up getting injured on Anderson’s seventh goal, and was taken out of the game.

The Cardinals kept with the Titans in the early going, but as the clock kept ticking, the Titans kept up their pressure.

Junior Laekyn Juciuk scored a hat trick, with two goals in the first half, and the final one to end the game with a mercy for the Titans.

“I was really happy, everybody got to play,” said Anderson Coach Larry Lankford. “(It’s the) first time in a long time we started 3-0. We have Woodhaven, Carlson, and Trenton coming up, all in the next two weeks. We need to work on our passing. It’s there, but we need to tighten up our passing.”

Also scoring for the Titans were sophomore Brooke Konwinski, senior Andrea Thornsberry, and junior Hallie Tingstad.

Melvindale Coach James Bradley said he was proud of his team despite the loss.

“We played well," he said. "Last year it was 8-0 after the first 20-30 minutes. We’re improving. By the fifth or sixth game, we should have it down.”
