Richard will head into the 2014 season with eight players returning from a team that won a Catholic League title last year.

Pioneers Coach Kristy Cameron, who is in her third year at Richard, said senior Lauren Burger will be at No. 1 singles this spring, while sophomore Ava Daly will take on the No. 2 singles role, junior Shannon Kowalowski will step into the No. 3 singles spot and freshman Emily McGrath with play No. 4 singles.

The No. 1 doubles team for Richard is made up of seniors Madison Paul and Rachel Fredericks, while the No. 2 doubles spot will feature a pair of seniors, as well, in Alicia Sims and Kaitlyn McGrath.

As of last week, Cameron said the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams had not been picked.

Richard is scheduled to kick off its season with a tournament tomorrow at Ann Arbor Greenhills.

As Cabrini gets ready to compete in the tough Catholic League this spring, it will go forward with several returning players.

Monarchs Coach JR Muniz said junior Anna Randt will lead the way for his squad this year, while several returning seniors will make up the team’s core.

12th graders coming back to the court for Cabrini this spring are Andi Vigneau, Sidney St. Germain, Alyssa Alonte, Morgan Peterson, Brittany Martin, Maddy Lajiness and Kate Black.

Aside from Randt, Cabrini will also have returning juniors Carolyn Ferraiulo, Greys Marsh, Lauren Greifenberg and Johanna Roa.

Also expected to have an impact is sophomore Annaliese Nygord.

“I believe we will be competitive in our league this year,” Muniz said. “It will take some hard work to knock off the better teams. Most have top players that will minimally end up as some of the best players in our regional.”

Cabrini was scheduled to be in action Thursday at Ann Arbor Green Hills.
