Saline - In the first round of Class A, Region 3 semifinals Monday night, Anderson was paired up with one of the state’s heavyweights.

Unfortunately for the overmatched Titans (15-9) , the Grizzlies (21-3) grabbed control early and never let go, en route to a 63-34 victory.

No. 4-ranked Ypsilanti, which is favored by many to win the state title, got out to a 15-5 lead after the first quarter and was up 34-13 at the half.

For the night, Anderson was led by Trey Harris’ 10 points, along with eight from Connor Phee and five each from both Blake Sloan and Juwan Graham. For the Grizzlies, Corey Allen netted 23, which included five triples, and Louisville-commit Jaylen Johnson scored 14 in the winning effort.

The locals had their best performance in the third quarter, as they put up 14 points, led by six from Harris and all five of Sloan’s points for the game.

However, the third-quarter spark wasn’t nearly enough to get back in the game and Anderson trailed 52-27 heading into the final quarter and ultimately fell by the 29-point margin.

With the victory, Ypsilanti advanced to take on No. 6-ranked Romulus on Wednesday, back in Saline, for the regional title.

Anderson Coach Dave Pratt said that ending the season with a lopsided defeat is a tough way to finish, but considering the level of competition his squad was up against, he’s not completely disappointed.

“With everything the kids gave all year it’s a shame to go out like this, but you go out to a team that may win a state championship, it’s not a terrible way to go out,” Pratt said.
