Truman, Melvindale advance in first-round district play

Truman crushes Wayne Memorial

Truman took down Wayne Memorial 66-42 Monday night in the opening round of Class A, District 15 playoffs in Belleville. For the Cougars (19-2, 14-2 Downriver League) Aaron Foster-Smith put up 31 points in the winning effort. With the victory, Truman sets up a postseason showdown with in-city rival Kennedy on Wednesday, which it split with during league play. The contest starts at 5:30 p.m. and the winner will take on either Romulus or Westland John Glenn on Friday for the district title.



Melvindale takes down Divine Child

Melvindale came away with a 40-30 victory against host Divine Child in the first round of Class B, District 40 playoffs Monday night. Guiding the Cardinals (8-12, 7-9 DRL) was Wissam Saeed, who finished with 12 points and teammate Albert Webster netted 10. Up next for Melvindale is a 6 p.m. game Wednesday against Annapolis, back at Divine Child. The winner of that contest will play either River Rouge or Robichaud for the district title on Friday night.
