Call it a Ram four-wheel drive.

The host Flat Rock Rams won their fourth consecutive wrestling team district title on Wednesday with a close victory in the final match to advance to regionals.

Flat Rock will head to Richmond on Saturday for the individual districts and then head back to Richmond on Wednesday for the team regionals.

The road to Richmond started out with an easy 63-12 win over Grosse Ile. The Red Devils didnít have enough wrestlers to fill out the roster so this match was a foregone conclusion before it even began.

But give Grosse Ile credit. The wrestlers they have were well prepared and ready to go. They only had five wrestlers but three of them Ė Tanner Coolsaet (125 pounds), Mike Wickowski (135) and Cooper Williams (171) Ė won for the Red Devils.

Jacob Salter (152) and Jared Lambrix (160) had pins for wins for the Rams.

The second match against Livonia Clarenceville was a barn-burner that ended in less-than-dramatic fashion.

After the first matches at 103 and 112, the Rams trailed 10-0. At 119, Justin Minnick won by pin and Jason Johnson won a tough match 15-9 at 125. But the rams still trailed 10-9 after four matches.

Sophomore Mark Kitchen and Branden Fisher came up big for the Rams with a pin at 130 and 135 to give Flat Rock a 21-10 lead.

A nine-point loss at 140 and a 9-5 loss at 145 made the score 21-17.

At 152, Salter pinned his opponent with four seconds left in the match to give the Rams a 27-17 lead. But a loss by pin at 160 made it 27-23.

Baily Hill won by a pin at 171 pounds to put Flat Rock up 33-23.

Clarenceville then won the next two matches at 189 and 215 by pins to cut the deficit to 34-33 with one match to go. But the match never happened.

The Clarenceville wrestler didnít make weight and had to void the last match.

Jeff Jones of Flat Rock took the victory and the Rams took the match 39-34.
