HOCKEY: Woodhaven blindsided by Divine Child (PHOTO)
Third-period rally is Woodhaven's downfall
Woodhaven's CJ Yacuone (15) had a goal, but Kyle Makowski (26) and the Divine Child hockey team bumped off the Warriors in a Metro League Showcase game at the DISC Friday night. The Warriors led Dearborn Divine Child 2-1 heading into the third period of the Michigan Metro Hockey League Showcase game.
But the Falcons ruled the final 17 minutes, scoring four times and posting a 5-2 victory.
“The first 35 minutes were pretty good,” said Woodhaven Coach Bryan Sullivan. “But in the third, after they scored to tie the game, it was like our kids said, ‘the heck with it, we’re going to the (Snowball) Dance.’”
The annual Woodhaven dance was after the game and it was probably the best part of the night for the Woodhaven players.
Thing started out well as CJ Yacuone scored in the first period for Woodhaven and it was-1-1 at the first intermission.
JC DeJongh scored in the second period and Woodhaven led 2-1 after the first 34 minutes of play.
But it was all DC after that as the Falcons wound up outshooting the Warriors 39-18.
It was a different story a week ago as the Warriors scored two times in the first period and two more in the third on their way to a 4-2 in at Chelsea.
Dominic Moore and Billy Brock had the first-period goals for the Warriors and Brett Gomolak and Yacuone had the third-period goals. Gomolak’s turned out to be the game-winner.
Goaltender Steven Hurley started the game and split duties with Trevor Monaco.
The Warriors play a huge game tonight when they go to City Arena to face Grosse Pointe South.
Grosse Pointe is 7-0-1 in Metro League games, just ahead of Woodhaven and Divine Child.
On Saturday, Woodhaven hosts Ann Arbor Huron.
