The host Bears, Trenton and Grosse Ile all snatched first-place trophies at the Wyandotte Competitive Cheerleading Competition last Saturday.

The Division 1 champ Bears scored 736.48 points, second in the whole competition to only Division 3 champion Grosse Ile, which posted a final total of 737.94. Despite being hit with a 24-point deduction, Summit Academy finished second in Division 3.

Trenton was the Division 2 champ with 730.28.

In the sub-varsity competitions, Wyandotte was the Junior varsity title and Trenton’s Arthurs Middle School was the middle school crown.

The Trojans, Bears and Red Devils were not the only teams meeting with success Saturday as Carlson, Woodhaven and Riverview also won championships.

Woodhaven won the Division 1 portion of the 12-teams Saline Invitational with an event-topping score of 697.54.

Carlson was at the 10th annual Cougar Invitational and, as usual, the three-time defending Division 2 state champs stole the show.

Despite last year’s state runner-up Dearborn Divine Child and top team Allen Park being in the D2 field and despite a strong crop of Division 1 teams there, the Marauders still posted the highest final score.

Carlson’s score of 771.50 was more than five points clear of its next closest pursuer, which happened to be Allen Park (765.16).

Riverview was at the eight-team Livonia Ladywood Invitational and the Bucs’ final score of 673.78 was good enough to bring home the Division 2 first-place trophy. That score was the highest of the day regardless of division posted at Ladywood.
