GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Warriors improve to 8-0

With two big wins over the holiday break, the Woodhaven basketball team remains one of just two undefeated teams in the area.

On Dec. 28, the Warriors dominated Henry Ford 73-27.

“Our kids played so hard on defense and ran the floor really well,” Coach Rodney Scharboneau said. “I think we were a little deeper than they were and that might have been the big difference in the end.”

Woodhaven dominated the scoring and had three scorers with double-digit points.

Cassie Breen led the way with 20 points, Hailey Leidel finished with 17 and Allison Manning put in 15. Lyndsay Brennan finished with seven points.

The following night in a late night game the Warriors were victorious over North Farmington 55-37.

“It was a hard-fought game and (North Farmington) was a very good and physical team, but our girls responded really well and played a very good game,” Scharboneau said.

Leidel led the team with 18 points, Breen finished with 14 and Manning had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

“All the girls contributed to the win,” Scharboneau said. “Hailey and Cassie were really good.

“Cassie kind of took the game over in the fourth quarter, but Allison has been playing so well for us lately. She has been the difference maker.”

The Warriors are now 8-0 and dive right back into league play on Tuesday when they travel to Allen Park.

The following week Woodhaven faces its biggest game yet when they travel to Southgate to take on an also undefeated Anderson.
