SWIMMING: Bears finish second at Warrior Invitational



Before all teams took their holiday break, the Woodhaven boys’ swim team hosted its annual Warrior Invitational.

Roosevelt led all local teams with a second-place finish.

Dearborn Edsel Ford was first with 284 points, Roosevelt had 254 and Riverview was third with 250 points.

Woodhaven (191), Cabrini (136), Redford Thurston (107) and Erie Mason (83) rounded out the team scoring.

The Bears used three first-place finishes and a handful of top-five finishes to place second.

The relay team of Danny May, Easton Tabin, Dylan Fore and Collin Olson joined together for a first-place finish in the 200 free relay, finishing with a swim of 1-minutes, 34.90 seconds; a MISCA meet qualifying time.

Individually, first place finishes came from Jamie Williams in diving with 227.05 points and Olson in the 100 fly (57.83).

Olson’s finish was also a MISCA qualifying time.

Second place finishes came in the 200 medley relay (Olson, May, Evan Perovich, Tabin) and from May in the 200 free and Olson in the 100 back.’

Third place finishes came from Tabin in the 50 free and 100 free.

Riverivew used one first-place finish and several second and thirds for a third-place team finish.

The Bucs were champion of the day’s first event, the 200 medley relay when Alex Guthrie, Dakota Roehler, Nicolas Guthrie and Morgen Gardocki swam to a first-place finish in 1:48.84.

The same team was also second in the 200 free relay.

Other second-place finishes came from Keith Stokely (100 fly) and Nolan Rochon (500 free).

Third place finishes came in the form of Roehler (200 free, 100 breast ) and Nicolas Guthrie (100 fly).

The host Warriors were led by Wesley Moilanen, Ryan Wiencek, Damien Straub and Zach Holt in the 400 free who swam to a championship in 3:38.09. The team earned a MISCA cut with the finish.

Individually, Moilanen (200 IM, 100 free) and Holt (50 free, 100 breast) were second and Straub (100 back) and the 200 relay team (Moilanen, Straub, Phillip Menna, Holt) were third.

Straub (50 free, 100 back), Moilanen (50 free, 100 free) and Holt (100 breast, 50 free, 100 free) all made Wayne County Meet cuts with their times.

Cabrini was led by Erik LaCroix in diving with a second-place finish of 222.45 points.

The relay team of Kirk Nicola, Ford Pariseau, Jonah Globke and Robert Day was third in the 200 medley relay.
