HOCKEY: Riverview nets exciting win over Carlson

Riverview and Carlson hockey matchups are always exciting ones and last Wednesday’s game was no exception.

The Bucs won the game 5-4 after trailing several times throughout the contest.

Riverview started off with a 2-0 with two goals right off the bat.

Chris Hass scored just 33 seconds after the opening puck drop and 15 seconds later, knocked his second of the night in.

Carlson responded with a few goals of their own and took a 3-2 lead.

Riverview tied things up but the Marauders responded again for a 4-3 lead at the end of the second.

The game was tied 4-4 as the clock was winding down and after a quick timeout from Carlson, Riverview’s Shane Nowak scored the game winner with 52 seconds to go.

Dalton Sutherland scored the other two Riverview goals and Hass added an assist to his goals.

Tyler Bozynski and Tyler Rode both played a big part in the win, clocking a lot of ice time for Coach Al Taurence.

“It was just a good game all around,” Taurence said about the win. “I’m actually very happy. The score was 5-4, but what I’m more happy about is the way we’re practicing.

“We’re practicing really well right now and the kids are getting into what we’re trying to accomplish.

The goaltending has been very good as of late and Taurence is pleased with the efforts of goalie Zach Millisor.

Taurence said a win over Carlson is always good for his team.

“Carlson’s such a big team that we were just trying to tell our kids to make sure they stay out of the ruckus,” Taurence said.

The Marauders took eight penalties in the contest to the Bucs’ three.

“It’s certainly easier to play five on four than five on five,” Taurence said.

Overall, Taurence is pleased with his team and the work through the first part of the season.

“It’s been a good month and a half so far,” he said. “The kids are looking good and they’re having fun.

“Everything’s good.”

The Bucs play in the annual News-Herald tournament on Dec. 27 and 28.
