WRESTLING: Downriver League roundup 2

Carlson opens win a pair of wins

Carlson wrestled in a quad meet in Flat Rock last Wednesday and went 2-0, beating Woodhaven’s B team 65-12 and Flat Rock 54-24.

Posting 2-0 records for the day were: Jerry Lakos, Shawn Lutzko, Mason Brott, Travis DeRossett, Billy Gibson, Alex Franco, Max Underwood, Andy Mydloski, Doug Bunea and Zack Underwood. Franco (145) and Max Underwood (160) both improved their season records to 5-0, while Lutzko (119) earned the first two victories of his high-school wrestling career with a void and a pin at 119.

Trenton

In at a quad meet last Wednesday, Trenton beat Summitt 66-14 and lost to John Glenn 31-30.

2-0 wrestlers for the Trojans were Brandon Russo (112), Connor Charping (135), Josh Frye (171) and Jack Thomas (189).



Anderson

In the first quad action of the season, Anderson took on Chippewa Valley and Macomb Dakota last Wednesday. The Titans beat Chippewa Valley 49-24, then lost to Macomb Dakota 40-37; a team that’s ranked sixth in the state.

Double winners for the day were Dylan Hoagland (103), Dante Rivera-Garcia (112), Logan Parks (140), Jake Balogh (145), Chris Pauley (189) and Joe McCourt (HWT)

“Were off to a good start, we’ll get better as the year goes on,” said Anderson Coach Jerry Frazier. “We’re just lacking some mat time right now, as the year goes on some of the younger kids will get better.”

Anderson competes again Saturday at the Bedford Tournament, which will feature some of the best competition in the state.



Woodhaven

Last Wednesday, Woodhaven defeated Plymouth Salem but was knocked off by Plymouth High.

2- 0 records for the night belonged to Xavier Graham and Derek Hillman.

The Warriors will wrestle again Saturday in the Wayne County Tournament at Roosevelt and will open up the Downriver League season with a meet against Carlson on Dec. 18.



Melvindale

Melvindale was dropped 49-21 in a nonleague dual meet last Wednesday against Riverview.

Winners for the Cardinals were Matt Curmi (103), Ben Durisin (125), Josh Hoak (130) and Ameer Munassar (135).



Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park was knocked off 57-17 last Wednesday by Monroe Jefferson in a dual meet.

Getting wins for the Railsplitters were Jesse Jividen (103), Quinn Chapman (145), Sonny Botello (171) and Jordan Hottum (HWT).

Lincoln Park will be in action again Saturday at Roosevelt for the Wayne County Championship Tournament.



Allen Park

Last Wednesday Allen Park took on Walled Lake Central and South Lyon and lost both. The Jags were defeated 49-18 by Walled Lake Central and 70-12 by South Lyon.

Allen Park wrestlers earning wins for the day were: Trevor Tappan (103), Dylan Miner (112), Shane Atkinson (125), Roy Llamas (140), Dustin Sabourin (215) and Owen Balestrieri (285).



Summit

Summit traveled to Westland John Glenn last Wednesday for a quad meet and came away 0-2 as team. The Dragons’ losses were 62-9 to Wayne Memorial and 66-12 to Trenton.

Wrestlers posting a 2-0 record for the day were Summit’s Shane Conn and TJ Barnes. With the wins Conn improved his season record to 6-1 and Barnes stayed undefeated this season, as he now has a 7-0 record. Also, Daryl Conley went 1-1, improving his record to 5-2 on the year.

Summit wrestles again Saturday at Roosevelt for the Wayne County Championship Tournament.
