It came down to the last flight during the Taylor Kennedy and Southgate match this afternoon.

The five doubles team worked in Kennedy’s favor. The Eagles soared just above the Titans in a 5-4 win.

“This is the first year we are trying out a five doubles team in our league. Today it benefited us and gave us another win instead of resulting in a tie,” said Taylor Kennedy coach Seoung Lee

Starting off at one singles, Kennedy’s Hannah Zilka beat Caitlin Onodi 6-1, 6-0.

Southgate came back strong at two with Beka Cashmer beating Tiffany Nagy 6-4, 6-3.

Resulting in nearly a sweep at three, Kennedy’s Justus Lee-Cato won 6-0, 6-1 against Tayler Daversa.

A tough battle at four between Kaitlyn Sears and MacKenzie Phillips resulted in a win by Sears for Southgate.

Heading into doubles, Kennedy won the first match by Mariah Anselmi and Rachel Carmody.

The duo won 6-3, 7-5 against Emily Wooten and Christina Kollias.

The match that determined the win for Kennedy was their team at two doubles.

Kayla Stevens and Morgan Stamper won in their third set, beating Emily Roldan and Hannah Waara in a tough battle.

The overall results from their match were 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

At three, Andrea Campbell and Jenna Grabowski took the win for Kennedy against Madison Wilson and Allyson Flannery.

Southgate turned up the heat in the remaining doubles.

Hailey Brandes and Riley Rivier defeated Kelsey Sutyak and Kelsey Oliver 6-0, 6-3.

Wrapping up the matches at four for Southgate was Brooke Brown and Kayla Bacha, who took a win over Haley Mortensen and Devon White.

“Our team and Kennedy always play close matches. It usually is evenly matched, as you saw here today. I have seen more development and improvement from this team through the season than I have in my last ten years of coaching,” said Southgate coach Ryan Furkas

Taylor Kennedy returns to their courts on Monday against Huron and Southgate will be playing Woodhaven.
