SOFTBALL: Cabrini starts season strong

After a state-quarterfinal appearance to end last season, the Cabrini softball team has gotten back to their winning ways with three victories over spring break.

The Monarchs defeated University of Liggett and Bishop Foley last week.

To start the season, Coach Debbie Normanís team secured a 7-2 victory over Liggett on April 4.

The Knights took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third but the Monarchs responded with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings for their victory.

Abbey Walewski went two-for-four and had three RBI while Paige Altherr went two-for-three with one RBI.

Jordyn Fryz and Rachel Gonzalez each went two-for-three.

Altherr handled the mound for the Monarchs and gave up five hits, one strikeout and one walk.

The following day the Monarchs took on Bishop Foley in a double-header and defeated the Ventures 13-0 and 16-1.

In the first game, Altherr went two-for-three with two RBIís. She also pitched four innings and had just three hits, nine strikeouts and two walks.

Ashley Gordan also pitched and an inning and had a strikeout and a walk. At the plate, Gordan went two-for-four with two RBIís.

Fryz went two-for-three in the game and also had two RBIís.

In the second game, the Monarchs dominated 16-1 and had several players contribute.

Lily Ranspatch went two-for-two with an RBI and Sydney Lankford went two-for-three with two RBI.

Chelsea Linares went one-for-one, and numerous other players went one-for-two.

Altherr pitched three innings for one run, two hits, two strikeouts and one walk.

The Monarchs were at home yesterday against Divine Child. Tomorrow they will face Grosse Ile and Friday they will be against Lutheran North. All games are at 4:30.
