TRACK AND FIELD: Richard girls small but competitive

The Gabriel Richard Pioneers bring a small but competitive group to the field this season, ready to work.

Currently at nine members – three seniors, two juniors, three sophomores and a freshman – more are still being recruited.

“Though a small group, they look to be competitive in their respective events,” assistant Coach Kim Sparrow-Cameron said.

The team is led by veteran seniors Rachel Koscielecki and Rachel Sattler, both four year members of the team.

Koscielecki will be competing in the100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and sprint relays.

Last season the senior placed second in the 100 hurdles at the Catholic High School League meet and seventh at both the regional meet and the News-Herald Invitational.

Sattler will be found throwing shot put and discus.

Junior Megan McLellan will run the 3200, 1600 and 4x800 relay.

Last season as a sophomore, she placed fourth in the 3200 M at both the News-Herald Invitational and the regional meet.

Last season’s 400 state-meet qualifier, sophomore Casey Lyons will also be back to defend her first-place finish at the Catholic High School League meet.

She will also be looking to improve her third-place finish at the News-Herald Invitational.

Lyons will compete in several other events, including the 1600, 4x800 relay and 300 hurdles.

New faces this season are senior Gaby Kwalton (shot put, discus, hurdles), junior Nikole Podsiad and sophomores Katie Lyons and Erica Augustyniak (sprints and mid-distance).

Freshman Michelina Partipilo also joins the team after qualifying for states during the cross country season.

The Pioneers open their season April 13 at the Pork Weiss Invite.
