The Cabrini girls’ soccer team has a rare mix of youth and experience as the Monarchs return a number of players from last year’s varsity team, but none of them are seniors.
Junior goalkeeper Allison Simms returns after a solid sophomore campaign and will led the Cabrini defensive effort. Sophomore Mary Renaud will serve as her backup.
Juniors Catherine Diroff, Michele St. Onge, Miranda Trumbla and Mariah Brooks will be joined in the defensive rotation by sophomore Hannah Burke and freshmen Kaycee Artman and Dakota Fitch.
“Many of these girls played on our defense last season and it will be how they gel and come together as a unit that will help us this season,” Cabrini Coach Frank Mlodzik said.
Juniors Maria Vasallo and Caitlyn Lefebrve will lead the midfield group, which will also include sophomores Sam Brehmer and Burke and freshmen Maddie Carter and Marta Grivins.
Junior Erin Lockard will be joined by sophomores Anaya Lechnar and Emma Avery and freshmen Cienna Eberth and Ashley Nehez at the forward positions.
“Overall, we are young, but experienced at certain positions,” Mlodzik said. “It is how well they learn to work together and support each other that will be important for us.
“They have been working hard this preseason and hopefully we will get some good results from the girls. In our division of the Catholic League, we have very tough opponents with Riverview Gabriel Richard, Lutheran North and Cranbrook. We hope to compete and get results.”
The Monarchs open the season at home on Monday against Lutheran Northwest and will travel to Anderson on Wednesday.
