A week after winning their sixth straight team district title, the Anderson wrestling team fell to Detroit Catholic Central in the D1 Regional round in Garden City on Wednesday.
The Titans lost 65 to -1 with a point being taken away for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Anderson had several kids out from sickness or ineligibility, but still had several close matches, and wrestled strong.
Jacob Balogh started the meet out at 140 and lost to Malik Amine 15-0 in a technical.
At 145, Logan Parks lost a close 3-2 decision to Chris Naubert.
Josh Lockwood had a 2-1 lead at 152, but lost in a 4-2 decision. At 160, Cody Stanley was pinned by Logan Marcicki 1:26 into the match.
Zach Ward was pinned 53 seconds into the 171 match by Drew Garcia. Chris Pauly, at 189 was also pinned 53 seconds into his match by Nick Giese.
At 215, Caleb Williams lost a 14-6 major decision to JT Ayotte.
Heavyweight Austin Sloan was pinned by Bob Coe 1:19 into their match, and 103-pounder Bobby Fisher lost a close 9-8 decision to Tommy Herman.
The Titans voided the 112 pound category and Catholic Central’s Parker O’Brien won.
At 119 Raven Schmitt lost a 20-10 major decision to Trevor Zdebski and Jarad Fernandez lost a 10-4 decision to Evan Toth at 125.
Two-time state placer, Alex Malloy was pinned 1:55 into his match with Ken Bode at 130, and Tyler Carson lost a 10-0 major decision to Myles Amire.
Anderson Coach Jerry Frazier said he thought his team wrestled a bit timid, and just were not ready for the strong Catholic Central team.
“The kids didn’t wrestle bad,” Frazier said. “(but) this is probably the best team we’ve faced all year.”
Heading into the meet, Frazier told his team just to go out on the mat and battle and see what they could finish the day with.
Although five wrestlers saw their season end after the match, nine will continue to the individual regionals at Canton this Saturday.
Fernandez, Molloy, Schmitt, Parks, Lockwood, Carson, Fisher, Sloan and Cody Tis will all wrestle Saturday with the hopes of qualifying for the state meet.
Schmitt and Lockwood were both regional qualifiers last year, Fernandez qualified for states and Molloy is a two-time state placer.
