WRESTLING: Flat Rock wins third straight team district

Hard work has been the mantra for the Flat Rock wrestling team this season and that hard work paid off last Wednesday for the Rams as they captured their third-straight team district championship.

The Rams defeated Grosse Ile 58-19 in the semifinals and went on to defeat Summit Academy 45-24 in the 193-3 District finals in Flat Rock.

“They were excited,” Flat Rock Coach Larry Dishaw said. “That’s our third in a row and I haven’t seen them that excited all year.”

Jason Johnson (125 pounds), Jason Ingram (135), Austin Kittle (145) and Colin Fater (160) all went 2-0 on the day to highlight Flat Rock’s efforts.

“This program is growing,” said Dishaw, whose Rams finished 13-11 in the regular season. “We’ve made some strides this year and if we make improvement every year, the program is going to continue building.”

The Rams will travel to Onsted on Wednesday and will take on Jackson Lumen Christi in the 124-3 Regional semifinals. The winner will face the winner of Manchester/Dundee in the finals.
