Though Cabrini is getting more consistent contributions from its secondary lines, the Monarchs are still going through the growing pains of having a young team and showed this by dropping a pair of games last week.
On Wednesday, the Monarchs fell to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 7-2.
Cabrini was flat in the early going and found itself in a 4-0 hole after one period.
“We did not play physical at all in the first,” Cabrini Coach Bill Alvis said. “We were dormant. They took it to us physically and we just laid back and watched them play.”
The Monarchs came out with fight in the second period, but were the victims of bad luck after two Cabrini goals were taken off the board due to a crease infraction and a blown call.
Trailing 6-0, the Monarchs got their only two goals of the game in the third period from Seth Globke, assisted by Tyler Adams, and Jake Mackie, assisted by Zac Weaver and Tyler Adams.
On Friday, the Monarchs fell to Crestwood Unified 8-4.
The Monarchs took a brief 1-0 lead in the first with a goal from Adams assisted by Sheldon Varhol.
Crestwood went on a run later in the period and scored four-straight goals for a 4-1 lead heading into the second period.
Joe Hay scored a pair of goals in the second period and the Monarchs went into the third with a manageable two-goal deficit, 5-3, but Cabrini was then outscored 3-1 in the final period.
Mackie got the final Cabrini goal and was assisted by Bradley Chavis and Brendan Alvis.
Adams, Corey Dooley and Nick Sanscraint each picked up an assist in the second period for Cabrini.
“They’re keying on our number one line a bit more now, but with Tyler Adams and Joe Hay, they’re really picking up their game and we’re getting contributions that we really need,” Alvis said.
Alvis also complimented his goaltender, Brett Kates, for fighting through adversity and injury all season.
“He has been a saving grace and has been fighting through injury to play,” Alvis said. “I’m very pleased with his play this year.”
