The Anderson wrestling team added to their dominating season Wednesday night with a 63-9 victory over Lincoln Park in the District finals.

It was the Titans’ sixth-straight district title, and this year was their third-straight Downriver League title.

To get to the finals, Anderson defeated rival Roosevelt 56-15.

Against the Bears, the Titans had 10 winners.

In the finals, the Titans had 12 winners.

Burgos, Fernandez, Lockwood, Molloy, Parks, Pauly, Schmitt, Stanley, Tyler Carson (135) and heavyweight Austin Sloan all won with pins.

Fisher won with a major decision, and Balogh won with a void.

Botello and Castillo were the two winners for the Rails in the final round.

Lincoln Park Coach Don McKenzie thought his team did well against the Thunderbirds and expected them to do a bit better against the Titans.

“We did well against Edsel Ford (and) came out with a lot of intensity and aggressive,” McKenzie said. “I thought we were gonna do a little bit better against Southgate considering how well we did against Edsel Ford, but (we’re) just not ready to wrestle Southgate.”

The Rails will participate in individual regionals on Saturday where McKenzie hopes to take five or six kids away to regionals.

“Our region’s gonna be tough but as far as our districts, I hope to be able to get at least 5-6 kids,” he said.

Southgate Coach Jerry Frazier was pleased with his team’s effort and expects them to do well in regionals this Saturday.

“We wrestled really well,” Frazier said. “We came in and did what we came out to do.

“The kids continue to get better and better every time we step on the mat. So we’ll take this into Saturday and see how many kids we can get out to regionals. We’re just hoping to wrestle well. If we wrestle well, everything else will take care of itself.”
