Downriver’s two defending state championship cheerleading teams were on the same floor Saturday morning and each continued to prove that they are a threat to repeat.

At the Southgate Invitational, the host Titans won the Division 1 competition, while two-time state champ Carlson won the Division 2 title.

Anderson, which won its first-ever state championship a season ago, was the best overall team in the competition in rounds one and two and finished with 772.72 points to win the top division.

Carlson, which has won four of the past five D2 state titles, led its division from start to finish, but was just a shade behind Anderson in the first two rounds.

The Marauders exploded with an event-best score of 318 in the final round to win its division and post a competition-best final score of 783.30.

Highly ranked Dearborn Divine Child was second to Carlson, but the Falcons were never a threat. They fell farther and farther behind the Marauders with each passing round and finished with a score of 765.38.
