In a tune-up for an important stretch of league games, Inter-City Baptist made quick work of Birmingham Roeper on Tuesday with a 69-42 Charger victory.
Inter-City put the game out of reach early on and carried a 34-13 lead into the half.
“It was a nice game and everyone was able to play,” Inter-City Coach Mark Kraatz said. “We got positive contributions from a lot of people.”
Evan Kraatz led the way with 21 points and 10 assists while his brother Garrett went 5-for-5 from the field and ended with 13 points and five steals.
Nathanael Packwood chipped in 12 points and five rebounds and Luke Barber added seven.
The Chargers (11-2, 7-1 Michigan Independent – Blue) currently sit in a three-way tie atop the league standings with University Liggett and Southfield Christian.
Inter-City hosted Oakland Christian on Tuesday and will remain home against Southfield Christian on Friday before battling Liggett the following week.
BP wins two
Baptist Park won a pair of laughers last week with lopsided victories over Ypsilanti Calvary Academy and Macomb Christian.
On Thursday, a big second quarter led the Wildcats to a 54-30 victory over Calvary.
After being outscored 11-7 in the opening quarter, the Wildcats promptly took over in the second and used a 24-8 advantage to distance themselves from Calvary before the half.
“In the second quarter, we just opened it up,” Baptist Park Coach Bill Miller said.
Anthony Kaminski had 16 points to lead the Wildcats while Javon Shell added 12 and Daniel Eubank had six points and 12 rebounds.
The Wildcats showed no signs of fatigue in back-to-back games with a dominating 70-32 win over Macomb Christian on Friday.
Baptist Park went into the half with a healthy 40-18 lead and blew the doors off in the third with a 24-6 advantage in the quarter.
Kaminski had another strong outing with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Shell scored 13 points, Devonte Scofield had 12 points and 10 boards, Kirk Thomas also had 12 points and Eubank added eight points and five rebounds.
The Wildcats traveled to Lutheran South on Monday, hosted a tough Ann Arbor Greenhills team on Tuesday and will travel to Novi Franklin Road on Friday.
Summit falls
Summit Academy dropped a pair of league games last week with losses to Warren Michigan Collegiate and Detroit University Prep.
On Tuesday, the Dragons fell to Michigan Collegiate 62-52.
The score remained close throughout the first half, but the Dragons fell behind by 10 points in the third quarter.
The deficit would hover around double-digits until the Dragons made a late run and cut Collegiate’s lead to three points with less than two minutes remaining.
“We had several opportunities to close the game and keep it close at the end, but we just couldn’t convert,” Summit Coach Don Farago said. “They hit their free throws down the stretch to spread it out.”
Donovan Presbery led Summit with 14 points. Gregory Glenn had 10 and Cory Hicks added nine in the loss.
On Friday, University Prep ran away from the Dragons in the second half in a 63-40 victory.
“It was close in the first, but in the second half, they came out with a high level of intensity on defense,” Farago said. “We didn’t match it and that game got away from us.”
Hicks led the Dragons with 11 points and Jameel Harmon added nine.
Summit (5-9, 2-4 Charter Schools) remains home this week as the Dragons hosted Willow Run on Tuesday, will host PEC Prep on Wednesday and will welcome Dearborn Henry Ford Academy on Friday.
