Downriver’s last undefeated team fell last week as Inter-City Baptist dropped its first game of the season last Tuesday in a 56-46 loss at University Liggett.
The Chargers held a nine-point lead in the third quarter
Evan Kraatz had 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Chargers while Nathanael Packwood recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Carson Claypool added five points and five rebounds in the loss.
Inter-City rebounded on Friday with a 55-42 victory over eighth-ranked Plymouth Christian.
The game was tied 22-22 at the half, but the Chargers went on a run in the third quarter and pulled away after outscoring Plymouth Christian 19-9.
“I thought we made some adjustments,” Kraatz said.
Luke Barber led the way with 19 points despite getting into some early foul trouble.
Troy Kazlaskas had 12 points and seven rebounds, Evan Kraatz had eight points, 10 assists and nine boards and Packwood added seven points and 10 rebounds.
Freshman Brady Fressel scored four points and played a key role in Inter-City’s second-half run.
The Chargers (8-1, 4-1 Michigan Independent – Blue) hosted Parkway Christian on Tuesday, will host Lutheran Northwest on Friday and will remain home on Saturday for a matchup with Detroit Country Day.

Baptist Park split a pair of games last week with a road loss to Westland Lutheran and a home win over Cavalry Christian Academy.
On Tuesday, a lopsided fourth quarter doomed the Wildcats in a 61-49 loss at Westland Lutheran.
Baptist Park held a 41-40 lead entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored 21-8 in the final eight minutes.
“It was back-and-forth, but they just took over in the fourth quarter,” Baptist Park Coach Bill Miller said. “We just had tons of turnovers. I think we had six in a row at one point and we just kind of collapsed.”
Devonte Scofield led the Wildcats with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
The Wildcats recovered on Friday with a dominating 59-32 victory over Cavalry Christian.
Baptist Park trailed 16-15 after one quarter, but proceeded to blow the doors off the game with a 23-3 second quarter advantage to pull away for the easy victory.
“In the first quarter, they had one kid who hit four threes,” Miller said. “After that, we really clamped down in the second and third quarters.”
After surrendering 16 first quarter points, the Wildcats allowed only 16 more points over the final three quarters.
Anthony Kaminski paced the Wildcats with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Kirk Thomas added 13 points in the win while Scofield added eight points and 10 rebounds.
Baptist Park (4-3, 2-2 Michigan Independent – Red) hosted Newport Lutheran South on Tuesday and will travel to Westland Huron Valley on Thursday.
Summit splits
Last week marked the fifth time this season that Summit Academy opened a week with a win and ended it with a loss.
On Tuesday, the Dragons hit the road and crushed Star International Academy 65-21.
Summit blitzed Star Academy from the opening tip and carried a 44-14 lead into the half.
“We came out early in that game and shot the ball well throughout,” Summit Coach Don Farago said. “We also played some good defense in both full man and half-court.”
Cory Hicks knocked down five triples on his way to a game-high 19 points.
Jesse Brown shot seven-for-eight from the field and added 16 points in the win.
On Friday, the Dragons were upended at home 72-67 against Old Redford Academy.
Old Redford’s Dijuan Mitchell was a thorn in Summit’s side all night and made seven three-pointers on his way to a game-high 25 points.
Hicks led the Dragons once again with 19 points and Donovan Presbery added 15.
Summit (5-7, 2-2 Charter School) hosted PEC Prep on Tuesday and will travel to Michigan Collegiate next Tuesday.
