The Woodhaven hockey team, undefeated in 2013, swept to its seventh consecutive win Saturday night in overwhelming fashion.

The Warriors got eight goals from seven different players and blasted Michigan Metro Hockey League rival Saline 8-0 in a game that lasted fewer than three periods.

Billy Brock scored twice for Woodhaven and seven others scored as the Warriors pitched a shutout and scored a mercy-rule win.

Goalie Trevor Monaco stopped all 22 shots he saw in the game.

“Trevor played really, really well,” said Coach Bryan Sullivan. “Saline had only 22 shots, but 10 or 12 of them were really good shots and after a few saves they seemed to get down.”

There was little indication early on that this would be a mercy game as Woodhaven led just 2-0 after the first period.

Defenseman Blaise Varady got the scoring started with a point shot.

But the Warriors got three more goals in the second period and played well in the third, netting three more quick scores.

Matt Bederka, Trevor Kowalczyk, Eric Long, Vinny Vassallo and Mike Williams added goals.

Alex Robinson assisted on four Woodhaven goals and it was a three-point night for Bederka, Brick and Williams.

“We started a little slow, but we got better and better and every line contributed a little bit,” said Sullivan

Woodhaven, now 10-3 on the season, goes to Ann Arbor Huron Today and to Wyandotte to play Roosevelt on Saturday.

Saturday’s game has been moved from 7:45 to 3:30 p.m. to avoid conflict with Woodhaven’s annual Snowball Dance.
