Huron remains perfect in Huron League competition

Huron and Flat Rock traveled to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on Wednesday for a Huron League quad that also featured SMCC and Monroe Jefferson.

Huron defeated Flat Rock 59-16 and SMCC 72-0 to remain perfect in Huron League competition this season.

Brandon Brooks (112), Steven Poet, Nick Phelps (130), Joe Ferguson (130), Aaron Escobar (140), Ryan Skura (152), Logan Ritchie (160), Nathan Haslip, Deion Copely (215) and heavyweight Mike Long all went 2-0 on the day.

Flat Rock also fell to Monroe Jefferson 60-15.

Dakotah Dockter was the lone Ram to go 2-0.

On Saturday, the Chiefs competed in the Warren Lincoln Duals and went 4-1.

Huron defeated Memphis 77-0, Utica 62-11, Notre Dame Prep 73-6 and Sterling Heights 56-18.

The Chiefs only loss came against host Warren Lincoln 45-27.

Judah Caballero (103), Eli Caballero (125), Jon Long (112) and Logan Ritchie all went 5-0 while Brooks, Skura, Ferguson, Copely and Long went 4-1.

That same day, the Rams competed in the Lutheran Westland Tournament and went 2-3.

Flat Rock defeated Birmingham Seaholm 77-0 and Crestwood 59-24 and lost to Redford Union 42-30, Southfield 40-36 and host Lutheran Westland 40-36.

Dockter went 5-0 and was named tournament MVP at 215 pounds. The senior dispatched of his five opponents in a total of 2 minutes, 32 seconds.

Brandon Hill (160), Austin Kittle (145), Jacob Salter (140) and heavyweight Jake Lambrix went 4-1 while Jason Ingram went 3-1.



Bucs second

Riverview attended the Carlson Team Tournament over the weekend and posted a 4-1 record for a second-place finish.

In pool play, the Bucs defeated Livonia Franklin 36-34, Edsel Ford 53-24, Tecumseh “B” 57-18 and Ypsilanti 54-18 before falling to Tecumseh, ranked #3 in Division 2, 54-18.

Freshman Brandon Garcia went 5-0 at 140 pounds and was named the lower weights MVP of the tournament.

In the championship dual, he wrestled at 145 pounds and defeated Tecumseh’s Anthony Lesko, a three-time state qualifier, 3-2.

Teddy Lossing (135), Dakota Martin (145/152) and Marcus Wright (171) went 4-1 on the day.

Marina Goocher (103), Collin Barron (119), James Smith (189) and Johnston Logan (285) each went 3-2 on the day.



Grosse Ile falls

Grosse Ile lost a pair of duals to Milan and Airport on Wednesday.

Charles Wright was the lone Red Devil to go 2-0 at 152.

Three Red Devils turned in good showing at the Garden City Novice Tournament over the weekend as Tanner Coolsaet (112) and Michael Wickowski (119) each took first and Jacob Barwikowski (125) finished third.
