The Flat Rock-Airport combined hockey team split the week last week with a win and a loss.
The Rams were victorious over Monroe, defeating the Trojans 4-2 in the SEHL league showcase.
Flat Rock jumped out to an early lead when Sam Farrah received an outlet pass from Mitchell Holt and put one past the Monroe goalie.
Monroe answered back with two goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead going into the first break.
The score remained the same until late in the second period when Austin Jacobs found the back of the net. He was assisted by Holt and Ryan Feroni. Thirty seconds later, Holt scored on a slap shot from the point, set up by Alex Jennings and Feroni.
In the third period, Flat Rock had to be strong on the penalty kill and Jacobs found a way to score his second of the night, helped out by Farrah and Holt.
Earlier in the week, the Rams fell 3-1 to Gabriel Richard.
The Pioneers got on board first, but the Rams answered back quickly in the second period with a goal from Holt. He was assisted by Ryan Eyler and Jared Gersky.
The score carried over into the third period and with four minutes to go, Richard netted two goals to defeat the Rams.
Flat Rock Coach Tim Ames says his team is starting to come together and play well with some hard work from the drop of the puck as the second half of the season gets underway.
“We have had some heart-to-heart talks between players and coaches to turn the season around,” Ames said. “The players thought they were ready for more structured roles which began in practice and the results are starting to show.”
The Rams took on Grosse Ile last night.
