All Hockey - Boys Stories
The Trenton hockey team did not break much of a sweat in its first action of the New Year as it blanked Carlson 9-0 in two periods at the Kennedy Recreation Center Friday night.
The game was perhaps even more one-sided than the final score indicated as Trenton scored on nine of its 22 shots on goal and Carlson responded with just four at the Trenton net.
Trenton goalies Jake Seeley and Garrett Carroll dived the two periods and each stopped two shots.
Trenton’s offense was paced by Brad Teska, who had three goals and an assist.
Six other Trojans netted single goals. They were Vinnie DaBrowa, Aaron Davis, Andrew Sawyer, Justin Dunn, Quinn Preston and Brandon Hoffman.
It turned out to be a three-point night for DaBrowa and a two-point night for Sawyer, Dunn Hoffman, Michael Kinney and Aaron Arturi.
Carlson did not help itself with six penalties in the two-period game. Trenton scored on four of its six power-play chances.
“Our kids weren’t very disciplined,” said Carlson Coach Dennis Gundick. “We thought we had our kids prepped to at least be competitive going into this. We just had a total collapse – and not just one person – it was the whole team in general.”
Trenton Coach Mike Turner admitted the game was not very competitive, but said his coaching staff got a look at some new line combinations it is contemplating.
“We want to start to get on a roll now,” said Turner, who has seen his team play inconsistently this season. “We’ve learned out neutral-zone coverage and other things and now it’s time to make it work.”
The Trojans host Allen Park tonight and Grosse Pointe North Saturday.
Carlson gets back to action tonight against Huron.
“I think it is gonna be a real good time,” said Gundick. “Of course we always take the ice expecting to win (but) Huron’s a good team and they’ve got a couple good lines. We expect to go in there and at least be competitive.”
The Marauders then face Southgate in the SEHL Showcase at the Southgate Civic Center Saturday.
