COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING: Dominant Marauders win again

It is a new year, but the results are the same for two-time defending competitive cheerleading state champ Carlson.

The Marauders, who have actually won four of the last five Division 2 state titles, went to Richmond Saturday and dominated the field in winning their division.

The Marauders scored 785.6200 points – most in the event regardless of class.

It was a good showing, especially coming directly after the holiday break.

“We had an amazing day Saturday, especially for this early in the season,” said Marauder Coach Danielle Jokela. “I sure am a proud coach after our performances in all three rounds, but of course there are many things to work on.

“We watch film on Sunday nights and picked out a hundred things that must be fixed.”

Anderson, the defending Division 1 state champ, was also in the field and finished second to Sterling Heights Stevenson. The Titans scored 767.76 points and finished about seven points behind the champs.

Carlson and Anderson will both be at Rochester Stoney Creek for a high-level competition this weekend.
