COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING: Powerful Carlson is off and running again (PHOTOS)

The Carlson competitive cheerleading team, which has won four of the last five Division 2 state championships, opened a new campaign by hosting and winning the Pat Christiansen Memorial Competition Saturday.

The Marauders led the 13-team, single class event from wire-to-wire and scored 721.78 points to outdistance runner-up Brighton, which scored 698.42. Grosse Ile finished third with 666.32 points.

The winning Marauders are Annie Hajec, Emily Tritt, Kaitlin Gant, Miranda Colmer, Sydney Alioto, Maelyn Russo, Sarah Tritt, Chelsea Robb, Alexis Kopchia, Kiah Manthei, Malory Deleon, Kourtney Tyra, Kristina Arrendale, Kerra Janis, Dana Hammill, Chalayna Shulaw, Kersten Gant, Maddy Campbell, Sheridan Skopczynski , Kayla Chernoff, Macey Sirls, Mary Miller, Taliah Hamilton and Rhiannon Morbito

Carlson won the first two rounds of the event handily and finished second – one-tenth of a point behind Brighton – in the final round.

The Bulldogs are coached by Christina Wilson, who spent the past several seasons at Carlson along with current Coach Danielle Jokela.

Other local teams at the event were Woodhaven, which finished sixth and Trenton, which was ninth.
