COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING: Anderson starts season with a bang

The defending Division 1 state champion Anderson Titans opened the 2012-13 competitive cheerleading season in dominating fashion Saturday, winning the Novi Winter Fire-up Competition.

The Titans led wire-to-wire and blew-out host Novi, which was the meet runner-up.

Anderson scored 754.5400 points to Novi’s 688.9000 to win the event handily. Oxford was a far-distant third, more than 130 points behind the champs from Southgate.

Woodhaven was also at the meet and finished eighth in the 11-team Division field.

Allen Park, a perennial state-meet qualifier, won the five-team Division 2 portion of them meet, scoring 698.6000 to easily outdistance second-place Farmington, which scored 654.8200.

Allen Park’s score was the second highest in the 18-team meet regardless of class.

Riverview finished third in Division 2 with a final score of 440.7400.

Many Downriver team will compete this Saturday at the Pat Christiansen Memorial Competition hosted by Carlson.
