After winning a second consecutive district title last week over rival Allen Park Cabrini, Riverview Gabriel Richard advanced to Saturday’s Division 3 Regionals at Manchester High School.

Unfortunately for the Pioneers (13-15), they ran into powerhouse Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in the regional semifinals and were handed a 13-0 defeat.

Richard managed a just one hit off University of Michigan-signee Meghan Beaubien, who went the full five innings in the run-rule shortened contest.

The lone Richard hit was a first-inning single off the bat of Sandy Cislo. For the day, the Pioneers struck out a combined 10 times vs. Beaubien, who has guided the Kestrels to back-to-back state titles and is the two-time reigning Gatorade Player of Year in Michigan.

Richard pitcher Chelsea Collins went the complete five innings and of the 13 runs she allowed, only nine were earned. She also scattered 12 hits and she walked one batter.

SMCC advanced to face Grosse Pointe Woods Liggett in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at Carleton Airport.
