Back-to-back Macomb Area Conference titles.
That’s what the Port Huron Northern girls basketball team celebrated Wednesday night at home following a 74-37 victory against St. Clair on Senior Night.
The top-ranked Huskies (16-4) shared the MAC White Division title with Warren Cousino at 11-1.
“It was a big game because we needed to win to get a share,” Northern Coach Mark Dickinson said. “Cousino won Monday night so we had to win.
“Besides the loss at Cousino our closest game in the league was a 14-point victory. We really dominated the league.
“We had to call the dogs off early tonight. We scored 28 points in the first quarter (28-11).”
It was only fitting that the seniors sparked the Huskies, who went 17-3 last season and won the MAC Blue championship.
Seniors McKenzie Lance (18 points), Casey Fealko (16) and Kaity Lawson (10) led the balanced scoring attack. The fourth senior on the squad – Carlee Miller – has been out since the start of the season with a knee injury.
Northern were set to open the Michigan High School Athletic Association state playoffs with a Class A district quarterfinal game 6 p.m. Monday against Anchor Bay at Macomb Dakota, after press time for this edition. If they won, they will face crosstown rival Port Huron tonight.
