Algonac keeps pace with win over Almont

With a little help the Algonac boys’ basketball team could find itself playing for a league championship next week.

Algonac stayed within striking distance of league-leading Richmond with a 53-45 victory against Almont Friday night at home.

The Muskrats are 7-4 in the league and 11-5 overall. Almont is 7-4 and 10-7.

Both Yale and Croswell-Lexington are sitting on three league losses, while Richmond has two setbacks.

“We need somebody to beat Richmond before we close the season with them at our place,” Algonac coach John Highstreet said.

That opportunity could come tomorrow as the Blue Devils will host Cros-Lex.

The Algonac/Richmond contest is scheduled for Feb. 28.

Terrell Lee paced Algonac with 18 points, while Zach Osborne added 16. Shane Odzark and Jacob Wyant each had seven points.

Almont’s James Gilbert tossed in 13 point and Domenic Curtis had 12.
