With two first-place finishes and one runner-up finish, Crestwood tied for second on the men’s side of the 53rd annual Hebda Cup on Saturday in Wyandotte on the Detroit River.

The Chargers came away with 16 points, tied with Anthony Wayne of Whitehouse, Ohio, and behind only Wyandotte Roosevelt (19). In third on the men’s side was Grosse Ile (15).

Crestwood won the Men’s Lightweight 8 and the Men’s Quad and took second in the Lightweight 4.

The Crestwood men also placed fourth in the Varsity Double and sixth in the Novice 8.

As team, the Chargers tied for third in combined points (18) with Grosse Ile and Riverview. Roosevelt (34) was first and Saline and Parkersburg of West Virginia tied for second with 22 points.

Overall, a total of 12 crews competed in the regatta, which was held behind the Wyandotte Boat Club.

On the women’s side, Crestwood was runner up in the Quad. The team was also second in the Varsity Double, but the event was not scored, as there were only two boats competing.

The women’s champ on Saturday was Parkersburg, with 17 points, while Roosevelt and Saline tied for second with 15 points and Northville was third with 12 points. Crestwood (2) finished 10th, ahead of Anthony Wayne (1) and Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood (0) and just behind Grosse Ile (3).

Crestwood will be back in action on the Detroit River this Saturday morning and will be joined by several other teams for the 46th annual Wyandotte High Schools Regatta (Wy-Hi). Races can be viewed from BASF Waterfront Park in Wyandotte.
