Even though the Divine Child boys' cross country team finished 19th in the field of 27 teams at the Division 2 state meet at Michigan International Speedway Saturday, the Falcons broke new ground and accomplished their goal for the season.

"There are 100s of teams that never get a chance to run there, so our goal is to make it every year and then have a party," said DC coach Bob Glenn, "and even though we didn't run as well as I thought we could, we still did great because we had three guys in the top 100 for the first time in our school's history."

Sean Soter led the pack, placing 81st overall in 17:03. Zachary Welker was 95th in 17:08 and Dane Miller 96th in17:10. Ryan Mangulabnan was 138th in 17:22 and Evan Oltman 170th in 17:52.

St. Clair won the championship with 106 points and St. Joseph was a close second with 127. Whitehall was 18th with 405, DC 19th with 416 and Petoskey 20th with 463.

Soter, Welker and Oltman are graduating, but Glenn said he doesn't expect that to spoil the party next year.

"We're losing three key people, but we're still looking forward to next season," he said. "We don't rebuild around here, we reload."
