All Hockey - Boys Stories
The Dearborn Unified hockey team saw the return of a few injured players and split two games in their final week of the regular season.
On Feb. 20, the team defeated Allen Park Cabrini 2-1. DU goals came from senior Josh Young and junior Jake Tomalak.
DU took a one goal lead before Cabrini tied the game on a goal from Joe Hay assisted by Steve Hecmanczuk.
Coach Mike Sears said he was pleased with his team’s victory.
“I was happy that we limited their shots and that we came out on top,” Sears said.
Over the weekend, DU lost their season finale game 5-3 to New Boston Huron.
Matthew Haining, Michael Gasior and Trevor Tom had the goals.
DU was only down by a goal as the clock wound down and pulled its goalie in an attempt to force overtime, but Huron got an empty netter at the end to secure their win.
“We had a few kids returning from injury paying so all in all I thought we played an excellent game for the most part,” Sears said.
“I’m hoping that we can continue to skate and compete hard Tuesday night.
