HOCKEY: Divine Child wraps up Metro League East championship

With two wins to close out the season, the Divine Child hockey team banked the Michigan Metro Hockey League East Division title.

The Falcons finished with 22 points, three ahead of runner-up Grosse Pointe South.

Woodhaven, with 23 points, was the West champ and the overall top point-getter, although it was DC than handed the Warriors their only league loss.

DC finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-9-1.

Over the weekend, DC defeated Saline 4-1.

The Falcons took a four-goal lead before Saline was able to get any points in the scoreboard, late in the third period.

Danny McGrail led the Falcons during the game, and recorded a hat trick.

Anthony Scala provided the other goal and Evan Heiss finished the night with a playmaker.

Dominik Stankiewicz had the win between the pipes and stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced.

Earlier in the week, Stankiewicz stopped 12 of 13 shots in DCís 5-1 victory over Ann Arbor Huron.

The team saw scoring from Scala (two goals) Brock Bacher (two goals) and Jimmy Roznowski (one goal, two assits).

DC took the first lead of the game before Huron responded with a goal. The teams went into the third with DC leading 2-1 and the Falcons finished off their opponent with three goals in the final period.

DC faced Allen Park Cabrini on Tuesday night in a MHSAA pre-regional contest and the winner will face Allen Park on Thursday night.
